GLOVER: Pearson expansion shows Ford’s Billy Bishop plan is nonsense

QUEEN’S PARK — Ontario NDP MPP Chris Glover (Spadina—Fort York) says that the plan to expand Toronto Pearson International Airport illustrates the absurdity of Doug Ford’s planned takeover of Billy Bishop Airport and the Toronto Islands:

“Doug Ford’s plan for Billy Bishop is nonsense,” said Glover. “The expansion at Pearson will increase the number of yearly passengers using the airport from 47 million to 70 million. Far more than his ill-conceived plan would do for the Island airport.

“If the Premier is spending billions of taxpayer dollars to expand Pearson, then why sink billions more into a Billy Bishop expansion that no one asked for? Why launch a takeover of our waterfront and the Toronto Islands? Ford always has an ulterior motive, and Ontarians are right to wonder what it is this time.

“Toronto has a perfectly good airport that is rightly being expanded. The people of Toronto, and Ontarians across the province have loudly opposed the Premier’s meddling on our waterfront. He should use those taxpayer dollars on our schools, hospitals, or creating the jobs that Ontario desperately needs.”
